ABOUT SHIZUE IMAI

Shizue Imai was a fashion stylist in Osaka, Japan before moving to New York City to pursue a career in ceramics. Her work has been exhibited internationally through galleries in New York, Paris and Los Angeles.

Shizue Imai creates illusion through the most concrete of forms. Her sculptures are modern talismans, abstract and functional, richly textured yet somehow illusionistic. The resulting images always manage to harmonize yet surprise, seeming both inevitable yet avant-guard.

Best known for her innovative use of experimental glazes and textured surfaces, her work fills a spectrum between function and sculpture. Each uniquely conceived object, wether alone or in series, displays her devotion to craft and research.
